Red-shouldered Hawks are a vocal bird that is often heard before seen. They are also quite defensive of their nest sites.

Identification:  This striking raptor has a red body, rusty shoulders, and narrow white bands on a dark tail. In flight, translucent crescents near the wingtips help to identify the species at a distance.

Average Wingspan:  40 inches

Average Weight (female/male):  693 grams / 475 grams

Habitat:  Forests.  The hawk often reuses nests from past years. It prefers tall, broad-leafed trees. A nest tree is often near water, and can be located in residential areas.
