Barred owls have a distinctive call that sounds like, “Who cooks for you? Who cooks for you-all?” They are usually found in mature forests, often near water, and will sometimes take up residence in a nest box.

Identification: A large, stocky owl with dark eyes, yellow bill, and a rounded head with no ear tufts. Chest is covered in dark vertical bars.
