BIRDS OF RAPTOR, INC.

We couldn't have a page about the birds of RAPTOR without giving special recognition to our old friend Hawkeye. Hawkeye was a Red-tailed Hawk that was with RAPTOR for 17 years. He passed away in the spring of 2000. Hawkeye taught us a lot about his species, and because he was an exceptional program bird, he helped us to educate many others as well.

RAPTOR also has a program Great-horned Owl. Owls are nocturnal, meaning that they are most active at night. Common to the Ohio Valley, these are the largest of the owls. Huge talons and keen night vision make them powerful hunters. Other Owls that you may see in this area are Screech-Owls and Barred Owls.

Immature Bald Eagle

Believe it or not, this very large bird is an immature Bald Eagle that found it's way to RAPTOR due to a torn crop. RAPTOR worked with Fish & Wildlife and local veterinarians to rehab this bird back to his home at Reelfoot Lake, Tennessee.
